We provide pastoral support and spiritual and religious care for patients, visitors and staff.

Please note this membership must be supported by your faith leader and attendance at a preliminary training course is required.

  • Committed member of a faith community
  • Warm, friendly and non-judgmental
  • Able to cope with patients who might be distressed
  • Good listener
  • Reliable
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality
  • Sensitive to patient’s spiritual/religious needs and practices


The role includes:

  • Giving supportive presence
  • Providing general support and companionship for vulnerable patients and their families /carers
  • A willingness to fulfil your role ecumenically within the Chaplaincy Team
  • Referring any requests for a chaplain to visit. (Usually done through the ‘on-call’ Chaplain).
  • Willingness to attend regular meetings of the Chaplaincy Volunteers and of the wider Trust Volunteer Team in order to maintain awareness of developments both within the Chaplaincy Team and the Trust.
