We are delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Devonshire OBE as Non-Executive Director at Ashford and St Peter’s from 1st July 2023.
Simon has an extensive corporate career and is also a serial entrepreneur. He previously ran O2 Business, the business division of the mobile-network and co-founded Wayra Europe, the business accelerator belonging to Telefonica. He served as Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) for the UK Government for three and a half years, reporting to the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy. Simon co-founded One Water which has donated more than £25m to providing clean water in Africa. He also helped scale-up Zopa.com at seed-stage.
Simon is an active angel investor and has invested in a number of healthcare technologies as well as currently being the Entrepreneur in Residence at: the National Physical Laboratory, Institute of Cancer Research and the Manufacturing Technology Centre, and Chair of Ploughshare, the tech-transfer division of the MoD.
Talking of his appointment, Simon says: “I’m really pleased to join the Board and look forward to helping the Trust achieve its strategic objectives. I’m keen to apply my commercial acumen to the challenges faced in today’s healthcare, and as an applied technologist, I am passionate about the mass adoption of new technologies that deliver positive transformational change.
“I work on behalf of the Government in a number of its scientific laboratories and am excited by the game-changing breakthroughs that are being discovered. I’m keen to learn about how best to accelerate the scientific innovation I see in the lab, for the benefit of both patients and the remarkable healthcare professionals who look after them.”
Simon will be chairing the Audit and Risk Committee and will attend the Modern Healthcare and the Integrated Digital Committees. He will also be providing support and sharing his entrepreneurial expertise to enable us to develop and implement new and innovative ways of working at Ashford and St Peter’s.
