What to expect

Your first appointment will last between 25 – 50 minutes; this may be face to face, telephone call or a video link. Please check your appointment paperwork to confirm which type of session you will be attending. It would be helpful if you could bring the following or have it handy for your appointment:

  • any correspondence relating to your current condition such as clinic letters, reports or maternity notes
  • a list of your current medications
  • reading glasses if required

Every effort is made to try and give you an appointment time that suits you. Please contact us via phone or email if you have any concerns.

Face to face appointments

You are welcome to bring a relative, close friend or carer with you to your appointment. We suggest that you wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove, as you will likely have a physical assessment during your appointment. Depending on your condition, the physical assessment may include a vaginal or rectal examination, which will be fully discussed with you at your appointment. If you wish to have a chaperone present for this examination please call in advance to arrange this. You can find more details on intimate examinations here.

You are welcome to bring your baby to any one-to-one appointments and the post-natal exercise class (babies under 6 months old). For attending all other classes, please do not bring your baby.

We make every effort to see people at the correct time, although there are sometimes unavoidable delays. Please arrive on time or up to 10 minutes early to help us achieve this.

If you are delayed, please call the department and let us know.

If you arrive late for a one-to-one appointment, you may be offered a shorter appointment or asked to rebook depending on how much time is remaining.

For information about how to get to our hospital sites, please see our locations page.

Telephone appointments

Please make sure prior to the appointment we have the most up-to-date contact details for you e.g. phone number or email address. Phone appointments will come from a withheld number. Telephone appointments can last between 15 -50 minutes, please be prepared for this and ensure you are in a suitable location to talk and can give your full attention to the consultation.
