Maria joined the Surgery and Oncology division of the Ashford and St Peters Hospital 'Research and Development Department' in October 2016 as a Research Assistant, coming from a background of years of experience in the medical and caring roles in the hospital and community settings. Maria brings with her a comprehensive understanding of patient care and hospital procedures. Maria has recently been promoted to a Clinical Researcher and her responsibilities include; identifying possible patients who may like to take part in different studies, visiting clinics and discussing studies with eligible patients, supervising students, attending the MDT meetings and recruiting patients to trials.
Maria aims are to improve patient experiences through her personal and friendly approach, by ensuring they feel well looked after and relaxed in what can be a difficult and sensitive environment.
Maria studied a 'distance learning' Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology outside of her working hours which she completed in May 2019. This has helped Maria develop and understand research as well as provide her with many other transferable skills that has supported her contribution to the Research and Development Department.
