In line with the Trusts initiatives to support the wellbeing of staff and also to support sustainability and green priorities, a low-cost e-Bike solar power charging station has been installed opposite the A&E department at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. All members of staff can use the charging point and with it being solar powered, there won’t be any charge for its use. There is also now a new charging station at Ashford Hospital.

The charging stations were purchased by the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals’ Charity using generous charitable donations from various benefactors and members of the public. The Trust hopes to purchase two e-bikes which will be available for staff to use and experience the ease of use of an e-bike.

The station has been designed and installed by a local company, Solarcycle Ltd. They are the first company in the UK to offer an off-grid, solar in a box solution.

Andy Hyatt, Facilities Support Services Manager at ASPH said “We the only Trust in the country with solar powered e-bike points. We have installed many e-car chargers at our sites so it’s great to now have some cycle ones.”

Getting about by e-bike is a great way to get out of the car and avoid the traffic and parking charges.

Tom Smerdon, Director of Director of Strategy and Sustainability at ASPH said, “It’s very exciting to see the e-bike charging points being installed here at the Trust, helping us reduce our carbon impact, improve our wellbeing and support local enterprise and innovation.”

The Trust have two cycle to work schemes at the Trust. Both schemes enable our staff to enjoy tax free bikes and accessories for your commute to work and have a large range of bikes and accessories to choose from including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric bikes.
