What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing uses antenatal education, self-hypnosis, relaxation, massage and breathing techniques to help release any fear or tension you may have around birthing your baby.
Discover how the mind and body can work together to help you gain control over your own labour. These methods can be used to help you to achieve a calm, natural and often drug free birth.
Hypnobirthing can be used to achieve a positive birth experience in any setting; on labour ward, the birth centre or at a homebirth.
What to expect
Classes run once a month over two weekends, held on a Saturday from 10am to 1pm in our Parent Education Room in Abbey Wing. Refreshments will be available during the breaks.
There will be a maximum of 7 couples in a session and you will be provided with a Hypnobirthing handbook. The course will cover a range of breathing and relaxation exercises, massage and practical skills for labour and birth. It is important to bring a birth partner with you, so they can learn the techniques too.
We recommend joining the course from 28-34 weeks of pregnancy, so please book early as the courses are very popular. This allows plenty to time to practice and get to grips with the breathing and relaxation techniques before your labour begins.
