Chief Digital Information Officer

Dr Jason Bincalar

Dr Jason Bincalar joined the Trust as Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) in January 2024.

Jason is an experienced digital leader, academic, chartered engineer, and Fellow of the British Computer Society. He has led NHS digital services since 2008, advancing well-known hospitals including Barts, Royal Brompton, Royal Marsden, and Royal Liverpool. Jason joined the Trust from Liverpool University Hospitals, where as Chief Information Officer, he created the vision for Care Record Liverpool, and through diagnostic networks delivered comprehensive sharing solutions across the Cheshire and Merseyside region.

Jason started his career as an apprentice engineer for Marconi, the radio inventor, exposing him to military communications and sponsoring his first degree in computer science at Kings College London, undertaken in the golden era before the internet. He subsequently joined the Ministry of Defence and was stationed in Chertsey, later settling with his family in the area and experiencing our hospital services.

Jason is dedicated to lifelong learning, earning his MBA and doctorate at the University of Liverpool. He is attached to the renowned Institute of Population Health, where his fellowship promotes the use of health data science and digital strategy to pioneer healthier, fairer, and better lives. He chairs the NHS Skills Development Network annual student conference and inducts new generations of Digital, Data and Technology graduates. He is on a mission to improve health outcomes and the patient experience through the careful adoption of digital solutions and scholarly practice, narrowing the gap between data and action.

He joined Ashford and St Peter’s in January 2024 as CDIO - a newly created executive role which the Board and leadership colleagues have introduced to replace the Director of Digital role. Creating this leadership position reflects the significance of this area, and will help us to create a digitally focussed environment. The emerging digital strategy will be a huge support and enabler for our other strategies across the organisation that are currently being developed.
