Staff at Ashford Community Open Day

Ashford hospital held its first community open day in November where it opened its doors to the public, to showcase the amazing services and staff, welcoming the local community to see the hospital when they’re fit and well, allowing them to be more curious and the opportunity to ask questions to find out more about what goes on in a hospital.

We were really pleased to have so many local community groups and partners joining us on the day with our wonderful teams who put on an array of interesting and interactive stands as well as informative tours and demonstrations. We were also able to promote the various career opportunities that are available within the Trust. The Trust Charity hosted a tea party to raise funds for the Trust, which included a prize draw for a handmade 3D blanket that was donated by the Byfleet Knitting Group.

We were also pleased to be able to share our plans for Ashford Hospital, which includes a new elective centre for the surrounding area, to reduce waiting times for elective surgery and also the new Macmillan cancer support centre that will be built to provide support and information for cancer patients and their families closer to home.

Tom Smerdon, Director of Strategy and Sustainability said: “I was delighted to see all the interactive and innovative stands and activities that our teams put together on the day to showcase their services, as well as so many local community groups and partners sharing information and support they can offer to the local people. The feedback from those who came along was really positive. We will be making these open days a regular event in the ASPH calendar, so keep an eye out for more information when we start planning the next one. A huge thank you to all those involved, a great team effort and a big thank you to those who came along to support their local hospital.”
