In 2020, the NHS became the world’s first health service to commit to reaching net zero carbon. Following this ambition, NHS organisations have been working to translate national ambition into local action - through the development of green plans.
For the first time ever, the NHS will be able to announce that every NHS Trust now has a net zero strategy – a Green Plan – in place. That's all 212 Trusts. Together, these plans will save more than 1 million tonnes of carbon over the next three years – that’s the same as taking 520,000 cars off the road.
It’s not just the environmental impact that matters; these plans work to deliver improved patient care, save lives, and reduce costs and waste.
