| Trust lifts the veil on R&D at local hospitals |

Without research and development (R&D) the creation of new medicines, treatments and cures would not be possible. The NHS carries out a large amount of R&D work in healthcare establishments and research facilities across the country, including Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals. Martha Wrigley, Clinical Trials Manager, said: “R&D is a very exciting field. It is the way we move forward to offer patients better treatment and better outcomes. At Ashford and St Peter’s we have been involved in a huge number of clinical trials and research projects over the years and have lots of exciting work going on at the moment.” To raise awareness of R&D work at the Trust, there will be a Public Information Afternoon on Friday 14th September in the Post Graduate Centre at Ashford Hospital. Presentations will be given by consultants and research staff to illustrate the range of work that takes place. Martha said: “I really want to encourage people to come along and find out what we do. A successful research project or clinical trial can literally change people’s lives and it’s a fascinating field to work in.” The event is open to everyone but space will be limited so please book your place early to avoid disappointment.
