Our staff bank

Our Staff Bank

What is Bank on Us

It is important for the safe care of our patients that we maintain safe staffing levels in the hospitals. Sometimes when staff are sick or on leave, or we have vacancies then we need to call on extra staff to cover essential shifts, this may be planned in advance or short notice. We have a pool of staff registered with the hospital who are available to cover at short notice – that’s our Bank on Us team.

The Bank on Us team includes Doctors, Nurses, Therapists, Porters, Drivers, Domestics, Admin and clerical staff, CSSD assistants, so whatever your talent or qualification we’d love to hear from you to join Bank on Us.

Pay rates

Depending on the job you are covering, you will usually get paid the same rate as the job you are covering. Rates include High Cost Area Supplement and for Bank work we pay an additional premium for annual leave – that’s an extra12.5% for every hour you work on the bank.

Your application to join the Trust Bank

When you apply to join Bank on Us, we have Bank job descriptions that describe the duties of the roles you might be working in, whether admin, portering, healthcare assistant or nursing.

We welcome staff referring a friend, or relative to join the bank, as it increases our casual workforce, and we try to place as many as we can but we have to ensure we are putting them in a placement appropriate to their skills and abilities, and age (in most patient-related areas/roles within the Trust workers need to be over 18).

At shortlisting the team assess the skills and experience of each applicant against the person specification as a guide to the level of work they will be able to perform, and this is further assessed at interview.

As well as testing skills and competences, the interview is an opportunity to discuss the areas of work you may be interested in, and hours you are available.

How to book shifts

Once you have registered for the bank, you will be able to book shifts in a number of wards

  • book on-line with Employee On-line – you can see available shifts and book in at home or work, via pc, laptop or mobile phone
  • phone the team to see what shifts are available,
  • check on the ward if they have any shifts coming up that you could fill
