Details of the Response
Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding initiatives to encourage doctors and nurses to be healthy.
During Spring 2010 the Trust launched a pilot Weight Watchers programme at Ashford hospital which was available to all staff, including medical and nursing staff. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts at publicising, the pilot was stopped after only 4 sessions due to a lack of interest and numbers attending.
The Trust is committed to the health and wellbeing of its workforce and has recently appointed a Project Manager who is responsible for developing a health and wellbeing strategy and implementing an action plan to help support our aims. For example, a Health and Wellbeing Calendar of events is currently being devised, where the Dietetics department have confirmed their support of the programme. Dates will be publicised shortly.
Currently the Occupational Health department are running monthly Lifestyle Clinics where they advise on health, diet and exercise based on assessments of blood pressure, body mass index, capillary cholesterol blood levels and urinalysis. Lifestyle assessments have been evaluated very positively.
Occupational Health have committed themselves to taking a leading role on health promotion work at the Trust and getting proactively involved in a lot of events. |
