From 1st October, there will be a change in the organisation providing sexual health and HIV services that are currently provided from the Blanche Heriot Unit. The new provider will be Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). CNWL are an experienced Trust already providing a range of HIV and sexual health services across London and Surrey and we are working closely with them to ensure a smooth transfer for patients.

Please read the following information which includes a number of important updates.

HIV services

From 1st October 2017, HIV services will be based at Buryfields Clinic in Guildford, with a smaller service at Earnsdale Clinic (Redhill).

Many of our clinicians will also be transferring to the new service so CNWL will retain expertise and knowledge; we have also contacted patients (where we have permission to do so) requesting your consent to transfer your medical records to the new service.

In addition, to ensure a smooth transition, particularly for patients with more complex needs, we have agreed that CNWL will run a number of transition clinics from St Peter's Hospital for the first few months of the new service. Your clinician will be able to give you more details.

Sexual health services

CNWL have three main clinical bases across the county where you can have all your sexual health and contraceptive needs met in one appointment, where possible.

The clinics are at:

  • Buryfields Sexual Health Clinic - GUM, Contraception and HIV services
    61 Lawn Road
    Guildford, GU2 4AX
    01483 783340

  • Earnsdale Sexual Health Clinic - GUM, Contraception and HIV services
    2 Whitepost Hill
    Redhill, RH1 6BD
    01737 231350

  • Woking Sexual Health Clinic - Contraception services
    Woking Community Hospital
    3 Heathside Road, Woking GU22 7HS
    01483 714160

CNWL will also provide community clinical outreach sessions with STI and HIV testing, condom distribution and information and advice sessions in Leatherhead, Epsom, Runnymede and Spelthorne. These health promotion sessions are designed to support the wider community with information and advice about how to stay healthy and make healthy choices.

More information is available on CNWL's patient information leaflets which you will find in clinic, or via their website at: www.sexualhealth.cnwl.nhs.uk.

Other services - genital dermatology and vulval pain

These services will remain at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals and will continue to be delivered from the Blanche Heriot Unit. We are currently in the process of setting up new clinics for these services and will be writing to patients with further details. If you are an existing patient and would like to arrange a new followup appointment then please contact the nursing team on 01932 722664. If you already have an appointment booked for a future date we will be writing to you to confirm this.

Why is this happening?

Surrey County Council's Public Health team are responsible for commissioning (buying) sexual health services for the local population, and similarly NHS England are responsible for HIV services.

Last year Public Health and NHS England decided to commission a new sexual health and HIV service to cover the whole of Surrey so people across the county had access to the same service. Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust - who are an experienced NHS organisation providing these types of service - won the contract and, because they are providing services for people across Surrey, want to concentrate services into specialist hubs.

When is this happening?

The change will be taking place from 1st October.

Where can I find out more information?

We have patient information leaflets available in clinic today that you can take away and read more about the new services. CNWL also have a website and you can find out more here: www.sexualhealth.cnwl.nhs.uk.
